Jorge Zapata was born in Florida and raised in Medellin, Colombia. He later moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina to study architecture, both vibrant Latin American cities with a complex history of social and urban challenges that inspired him to pursue graduate studies, at the University of Texas at Austin, in community planning and urban design with a focus on public spaces.
